What happens if it’s raining or really cold?
We’ve got you covered! We believe there’s no such thing as bad weather… just bad clothing! On the wetter and colder days, it’s important to layer up and/or wear rain proof outerwear.
We have a massive main ‘basecamp’ area which is completely covered and protected from the elements and has a fire pit which will be roaring all day long when it’s colder.
We also have a bell tent with comfy beanbags and a tea & coffee station set up (depending on event) which helps to provide extra shelter. In the summer months we are fortunate that there is an incredible forest canopy which really helps protect from the rain too.
With our Forest Yoga sessions, if the forecast is awful we sometimes will cancel the session and let you know via email and/or text if preferable.
Do you have a toilet on site?
Yes we do! In fact, we back ourselves to have one of the most ‘bougie’, nice smelling toilets in the forest school business. There is a hand wash station outside the toilet as well as hand sanitizer, and even a diffuser to help keep unwanted smells at bay!
What about parking?
There is no parking on site at the Hidden Valley, however it is a short 5 minute stroll from Grayshott Village centre. There are numerous free car parks in the Village all within walking distance of the site. It’s a pretty walk which takes you down into the woods away from traffic and village noise, creating an even more special arrival at the Hidden Valley!
At your Holiday Camps, where do we say goodbye at drop off?
We understand that this is a holiday camp for young children and leaving Mummy and Daddy can be a stressful experience (sometimes more so for Mums and Dads than little ones!). Due to the nature of the camp, we don’t allow parents to accompany their children as we find it affects the dynamic of the camp and it can make it harder for those children whose parents are unable to stay. In the event that your child becomes upset at the thought of separation at drop off, we can allow parents to walk the short distance to our forest site and hopefully the walk through the woods is enough to spark their curiosity. We are confident once they see the multitude of activities and exciting things to discover in the forest they will quickly forget their worries.
What activities will my child do in the forest?
Our approach is play based & child led, but we of course have plenty of activities up our sleeves so it’s not just a free for all!
Some of our holiday camp favourites include;
Going for nature walks and scavenger hunts
Building dens then using them as a base for roleplaying and imaginative games
Making woodland-chinos in the mud kitchen and selling them to their peers
Making their own mini fires on our tree stumps - they are taught the principles of fire lighting and then even get to toast their own marshmallows on their fires.
Arts and crafts - these vary per session and we try to regularly change this activity especially for kids who are returning for multiple days. Arts and crafts include making fairy wands, stone ‘worry monster’s, simple colouring in, clay models and nature inspired painting using ferns, pinecones or anything the woods can provide as a paintbrush!
